Is this novel ever hot! So sizzling hot that I could hardly put it down; make sure if you’re going to start it you have enough time to finish it; don’t think you can put it down for a few days; it’s impossible.  I polished it off in three nights of reading…which amounts to about three hours in total and that was after forcing myself to do normal daytime stuff instead of rushing off to read! It’s a typical romance with some very exciting, erotic scenes embedded in a pretty good paranormal story. I like the plot and loved the characters, especially the very sexy hero Bowen MacRieve, a brooding werewolf with a tragic past who has many centuries of experience and a very large…shoe size! Ah, Cole’s descriptive abilities are very effective, so effective that I’ve earmarked the pages of particular interest for future reference.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night by Kresley Cole

It had the typical, satisfying H.E.A (Happily Ever After) ending so you know, as stressful as things are going to get for the hero and heroine, they will ultimately end up together in the end…but that’s a safe bet for any true romance.
What you do need to know is that this is not the first book in the series, it’s just the first book that I happened to stumble upon; I’ll get to the other books in later reviews. You can read this novel without reading the ones that come before it without confusion, however, if you do read them in sequence then things will make a lot more sense in terms of continuity (many of the characters make appearances in the other novels)

Although I was quite taken with MacRieve’s Scottish tongue (pun intended, you really need to read this book), I have been told, on good authority that it is not really that genuine, and falls prey to some of the stereotypical slang and Scottish type words that we North American’s think is Scottish brogue. But nevertheless, it worked for me…suspension of disbelief is important in paranormal fiction even if it is related to accents.  My only other criticism is that there wasn’t enough sex! More, more, more, especially in the end…come on Cole, you write some good stuff, don’t prude out on us in the end! I firmly believe that all romances should end with a happy ending, a real happy ending, if you know what I mean.

Summary

Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the woman he loved. The warrior known for his ruthlessness grew even colder, never taking another to his bed—until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander must use all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It’s rumored that no one can tempt Bowen’s hardened heart, but soon passion sparks between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?
